Typetalk - What we do

Delivered through the BT TextDirect system, Typetalk connects people who cannot speak or hear on the phone, with other people using a telephone, by providing text-to-voice translation.
TextDirect is part of the UK telephone network that provides an automatic connection to Typetalk, when someone using a textphone communicates with someone using a standard telephone. This service also supports textphone to textphone calls.

Typetalk is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Confidentiality

All calls relayed through Typetalk are private and confidential. During many calls to banks, government services and financial institutions, personal, sensitive and confidential information is relayed on a daily basis.

All employees of Typetalk have to sign a Confidentiality Agreement, in which they agree not to divulge any information. Disclosure of information is deemed as Gross Misconduct and would be dealt with appropriately.

Typetalk Relay Assistants are prohibited from discussing the content of relayed calls with anyone else, and they are not allowed to use any pens or paper whilst working on the Relay service.
