New call introductions & system changes from July/August 2008
We are currently introducing changes to both the introductions and the system that our Typetalk Relay Assistants use whilst relaying conversations, in order to improve the service we provide you.
Our new shorter introduction* doesn’t go into detail about how the Relay service works, nor asks if the person receiving/making the call is familiar with the service. We hope that this will speed up the call process and give more equality to text users.
Our system changes aim to make it easier for Relay Assistants to handle calls, which will help your call run more smoothly.
Whilst we introduce the changes, you may notice some slight differences to things such as automatic messages. Please bear with us whilst our Relay Assistants get used to the changes.

* An example of the new introduction is as follows:
“Hello, you have a call from a deaf or speech-impaired person and I will be relaying the call.
Please say ‘go ahead’ when you have finished speaking.”
“Please hold, I am relaying your greeting to the caller.”
